Something There Is
Jun. 21st, 2023 08:37 am The people at the bottom of our garden have roses on a pergola and the roses are tumbling over the fence into our space. I think we get as much benefit from them as they do.
Sometimes I wish we could do away with fences altogether and have all the gardens run together but it wouldn't work, would it- not in our present sate of consciousness- because people would take advantage and allow their barbecue parties to spread.
As Robert Frost wrote, "Something there is that doesn't love a wall"- but also, "Good fences make good neighbours."

Frost was arguing that it wasn't the strict boundary of Yours and Mine that makes for good neighbors, whatever his neighbor's family saying said, it was the community-building aspect of coming together to make something, even though the wall wouldn't last longer than a day.
