Yesterday was a nothing-is-happening-even-though-we're-fucking-moving-day;  so we made something happen.

We went and bought another rabbit.

A father and daughter team rescue rabbits. They have a shed in their back yard packed floor to ceiling with hutches. And every hutch contains a lovable bun.

They have giant rabbits- things as big as bulldogs, only with floppy ears and lolloping legs.  One of them was at liberty. It lummoxed round the shed trying to trip people up.

I don't want one of those.

The daughter said we needed to get a female because two males, even if neutered, will fight. So we had to pass on the half-lionhead with the puffy face that Ailz wanted because it was so ugly.

And we settled on Rachel. Rachel the rabbit. She's all subtle shades of fawn and ginger.
And about three times the size of little Tosh.

She likes nothing better than to lie on the settee and watch TV. Apparently.

They're going to get her neutered for us and we take delivery next saturday.

Ailz is in the bedroom getting dressed. She's singing "My bunny lies over the ocean"

Bring back,
Bring back,
Oh, bring back my bunny to me.

*Groan!*

I'm fascinated by your indoor rabbits. Can you house train a rabbit? When we had a rabbit, he lived outside in a hutch and had the run of the backyard. We never considered rabbits and guinea pigs as house pets.

I hope the bunnies enjoy one another's company. We always try to keep two of whatever, though we are down to one rat now because his brother died a little while ago. I didn't get more because I want a break from rat keeping and besides, Meurig is so frail and elderly that I don't think he could cope with youngsters bouncing about.

Rabbits are very clean animals. They choose a toilet area and stick to it(pretty much). All you have to do is put down a litter tray in the chosen spot.

Our rabbit's toilet is just inside the front door- which presents problems when you're thinking of welcoming prospective buyers into your home.

Rachel sounds lovely! Respect to you for choosing a rescue rabbit, they make such great pets that it always saddens me immensely that so many bunnies get abandoned or mistreated.

We always had outdoor rabbits when I was growing up, but I've always fancied an indoor one. I thought about it when I moved to this flat but ended up getting rats instead, one day maybe though...

They make lovely house pets.

Ours sits in the front window watching the world and passers-by mistake him for an ornament- until he moves.

Ah, you two have made me happy today, what with your marsh-angst and your songs about bunnies.

I love you both.

Oh lovely (all the same I hope they are neuterable as I doubt you want a houseful!)

How do they compare with canivores as pets?

Oh, they are such adorable animals. I had several as a child but had to keep them in a pen outside. I have heard you can litter box train them like a cat. I´d love to have one but I think my hubby would not. Please post pictures and let us know how the potty-training goes.

Yes, they use a litter tray. They hardly need training. They select a toilet area themselves and all you have to do is put a litter tray there and they'll use it.

I've been packing stuff up for the move and bunny has been helping- jumping in and out of the box and eating the wrapping paper.

Both our bunnies are neutered.

How do they compare? Well, you can't take them for walks and they don't talk, but they're endlessly inquisitive and love to be petted. Something they do which is entirely their own is "bink"-which involves running round furiously and leaping in the air.

And, of course- and this is a great plus as far as I'm concerned- they don't go round killing things.
