I've read or heard that 15 (or thereabouts) is as many people you can have in a group and it still be be cohesive, united and of a common mind. Add more people and you start to get sub-groups forming- which isn't a bad thing, just different.

Our group at the Meeting House has reached 15 (or thereabouts). Not everybody shows up every week- and there were 10 of us yesterday- plus a couple of newcomers/seldom attenders who we made a point of welcoming in. The energy was strong. I had something I felt prompted to say in the Meeting, only it was a a bit fuzzy and lacking in context and I held back until a couple of other people has said what they had to say- and then it came into focus and I saw how it dovetailed into what they'd been thinking. We each had a piece of the whole and the whole was greater than the sum of its parts. This is the group mind in action and it's rather wonderful.

Afterwards we met at the house of one of our members for lunch- ten of us- and I don't remember ever being part of a group that felt so harmonious. If we grow in numbers we may look back on yesterday as something of a peak experience. We won't be able to sustain that feeling because that's not in the nature of things, but- well- I don't know what happens next- or even what I want to have happen next...
