Autumn But You'd Hardly Know It

poliphiloThe sea is too shallow here for the waves to get really big, but there was a high wind yesterday and the white horses were galloping in and the spindrift was blowing about. I didn't stay long because it was just too fierce and I didn't want to have to chase my cap across the beach more than once.
I remember two dreams. In one I was supervising the construction of a huge diorama of The Winter's Tale. In the other I was in school and we'd been asked to compare the new pound coins with the old septagonal fifty pence pieces. The new coins were very much bigger and carried various designs. The one I looked at closely had the portrait of a beautiful 19th century princess and a text in a reproduction of her handwriting which was incoherent and illegible.
We put the central heating on for the first time yesterday. I don't think we needed to. There was wind, there was rain but the air is still warm. The sun is shining this morning. I look out my window and the trees in the back gardens are still green and if only there were more flowers to see it might still be summer.
