Up to Greenwich to spend some time with Mike and Su. Stayed overnight in Eden Park. First time we've spent the night away since before the lockdown.

West Wickham has the classiest charity shops.

Driving through London is a drag. A journey of eight miles took three quarters of an hour.

Signs that London is in mourning? Hardly any. The weather was bright and chilly. We had lunch at the Ivy Cafe in Blackheath. It was busy. People might be queuing to look at a coffin north of the river, south of the river they were out having fun, spending money, meeting friends...

After the Ivy we walked to the East Greenwich's Pleasaunce. A secret place. M and S have friends who have lived a couple of streets away for years and didn't know it existed. It used to be the burying ground for the Royal Hospital- and therefore full of dead sailors- but no-one has been put in the gound there for a hundred years or so and now it's a just a park full of beautiful old trees, with a nice little cafe and a few gravestones.

I was pleased to see that Corwen held it's usual Owain Glyndwr day march and rally on Friday, there were boos and heckles as Charles did his walkabout in Cardiff, and the ceremony to welcome the Urdd (Welsh youth movement) to the site of the Urdd Eisteddfod which will be held next year went ahead as normal, despite it being a very cheerful sort of ceremony.

Re the Greenwich Pleasaunce Park, I'll try to remember that for the next time we visit London. We normally stay south of the river.

The town council here fenced off an area for wreath laying near the library in Larkin Way.

Nothing short of embarrassing for the royalists among us. They fenced off a huge area near the Peace Garden and there are less than a dozen small floral tributes.

It may be no accident that the majority of the Civil War was fought in this part of the world.
