Old Age And Dying And Death
Sep. 12th, 2022 08:37 amOld people (not all of them of course) lapse into solipsism. Their world closes in around them. If you're in a conversation with them you don't need to contribute more than the occasional "yes" and "no" and murmur of appreciation because they're basically talking to themselves. Deafness will have something to do with it but also our need at the end of a long life to reflect on who we've been...
This particular old person I'm thinking about was telling us how deeply she mourned the Queen. I was momentarily embarassed because I'm not mourning the Queen at all but then I realised they weren't asking me for my thoughts and feelings- and all I had to do was play along...
(I'm old, but this person is 17 years older)
When we mourn the dead it's ourselves we're mourning for. The dead are fine. They've just passed into another dimension- and- unless they've been soused in negativity- are likely to be happier and much better informed than we are. It's a hard saying, but I don't believe they miss us nearly as much as we miss them. In fact, I don't think they miss us at all...
...And not because they no longer care but because in their higher dimension- where time and space no longer exist- we and they are always together.
