Changeover

poliphilo My mother's nursing home is a Tudor building- allegedly- and has some of the character of an old-fashioned country house hotel. I think my mother will be comfortable there...
But, then again, put her in an armchair and give her a cup of tea and she'd be comfortable anywhere.
Pity about the smell of urine, but that's inevitable I suppose. Pity about the masks, but that's the new normal...
We came home to a house that seemed bigger than before- and in which there was a palpable vacancy.
Now we have to turn my mother's bedroom- which is on the ground floor- back into a living room.
I've been listening our for my mother for nearly ten years now. I thought It would take me some time to shed the conditioning- but I slept rather well last night.
I wonder if she'll go on calling "Anthonee" even though from now on it'll always be someone who isn't me who comes....
