We should be running this place as a small holding.

Here we are sitting on six or seven acres. We have an acre of garden. We have a small area where we grow vegetables. The rest is pastureland that wants to turn into wilderness and then into forest. It could be growing crops (organically of course) and generating energy- from sun and wind and water. It could support a small, self-sufficient community. But we're too old, too crocked, too inexpert to do it by ourselves. We'd need partners...

What I secretly want is for one of my kids to say, "OK, Dad, that's a fabulous idea. When do we get started?" But they all have lives of their own, and this place is my responsibility, not theirs.
