Several Different Things
Aug. 11th, 2021 11:09 amWe went to Dymchurch because there's a vegan cafe there we'd researched- only not thoroughly enough because we'd failed to spot that it closes on a Tuesday. All the other cafes on the strip seemed to be fish and/or burger joints so we drove on up the coast to Folkstone where there's a Tesco supermarket with a cafe- where we knew we'd be able to get an all day vegan breakfast.
Dymchurch was very busy- and if a very minor seaside resort like Dymchurch is busy then the big ones must be even busier. Hardly anyone was wearing masks on the street. As I skimmed the MSM this morning I caught a headline which quoted a government adviser as saying the pandemic was over and CV19 is now endemic- which I suppose means we're going to have to shrug our shoulders and put up with it- as we put up with such perennial nuisances as flu and the common cold...
Drive north west out of Folkstone and you're in the North Downs- and there are funny little twisty roads and
the villages are pretty. Here's a picture of the village square at Elham- which is one of the prettiest. It's a pity they have to use the square as a car park.

And here's Elham church

My mother really didn't want to get up this morning- and was resisting the carer physically and verbally. When this happens- as it does regularly now- I intervene and take charge. She seems to recognise mine as the voice of authority- which is an curious turn around...
She was in my dreams last night- or at least a version of her was. It was Christmas; I was spending it with my parents and we were scrapping in the style of a 1960s kitchen sink drama. Finally my mother attacked me physically and as I happened to have a slab of licorice with me I began breaking chunks off and throwing them at her. This was the final straw. Reconciliation was impossible and I went upstairs to fetch a bag to pack- only to find that the rooms upstairs had mostly been stripped of their furniture...
