Ailz has been performing archaeology on the freezer. She uses a hair drier. No bits of mammoth emerged from the permafrost but she did uncover a packet of brisket- and we've been vegan since the beginning of the year- and some potato waffles we bought with grandchildren in mind before the first lockdown prevented them from visiting.

The waffles said they were vegan so I cooked them for supper- but I've become used to eating real food- plant-based, unprocessed- and the waffles didn't taste real at all.

I posses a waffle maker from my Belgian days so tend to make them from scratch.

And I don't doubt they're nicer than the ones that come out of a factory.

Emptying the fridge and freezer at the old place was interesting. It's amazing what can hide in such a small area, and for so long.

One of Ailz's discoveries was just how much ice had accumulated. When she started with the hair drier it seemed like the freezer was completely full. By the time she'd finished there was masses of space.
