Pluckley, Kent, is reputed to be the most haunted village in England. They have a red lady and a highwayman and a gypsy woman and- according to common reckoning- eleven others. Nearby Dering Woods are also known as "Screaming Woods" and you probably don't want to go walking there alone at night.

No ghosts, I'm afraid (I've only ever once captured anything spooky on film) but here are some gravestones from Pluckley churchyard.

The first two are late 17th century- but still easily legible. 17th century masons carved deep.

The second pair are much later- late 18th century- the lettering a bit airy-fairy, but with some fetching figurative carving.

A lot of Pluckley's ghost stories are pure fantasy, but great fun!

It is a lovely churchyard.

I MUST GET THERE!! :DD Sorryoverexcitedagain!! But... the most haunted place and such fascinating gravestones are impossible to resist. They are far more interesting than most of the newer ones, I think.

38 and -is that 21? They died so young, from our perspective anyway.
