We recycle,  we compost, we reuse, we repurpose, we stash in the hope of reusing or repurposing- and we still manage to fill a big bin every fortnight with stuff that will presumably go to landfill.

Not good enough.

Is it always the same stuff, or is it just always something? (I have nothing to offer either way, I'm just curious.)

Presumably your mother doesn't want to switch to cloth (I don't even know if anybody makes cloth for adults), so that's not an option.

But when it comes to the plastic, maybe the thing to do is reduce - start buying things that aren't encased in plastic, or at least that have less of it.

We only fill a 'non recyclables' wheelie about once a month and what really bugs me is that usually, 90% of it IS recyclable- plastic wrap which seems to get every damn where!

It may be possible to recycle plastic wrap, but it's not economically feasible. (And even if it were, when recycling plastic the quality degrades fast. You can only do it so much before it's worthless.)

Thankfully a lot of our mags and such now turn up in the compostable 'plastic' and I only wish that more people would get on board with that!
