What's wrong with hoarding, anyway? Isn't it better than sending stuff to landfill?

There are many things that are too humble to be sent to the charity shop but too good to throw away.

Flowerpots for instance.

A lot of plants find their way into this house- and when they die or get planted out I usually keep the pots. I tell myself they'll come in useful.

And yesterday Ailz was working with her houseplants- and they did.

Well, there are degrees of hoarding, I think. I have a lot of stuff--and if I see a potential use for it or a potential value in it, I keep it. I have a lot of stuff that most people would think is stupid to keep--like the plastic trays that individual serving meals come in--but I use them as cat dishes to feed soft food to my sole surviving cat. And since I am a doll person, anything that I can "see" potential in as a doll accessory or doll furniture remains forever in one of my many bins of stuff.

My sister, on the other hand, is a true hoarder. She keeps every old catalog, magazine, and sale flyer she has ever owned--and they are disgusting, damp, mildewed, and gross, but she will not hear of recycling them.

Now she isn't as bad as some of those people I have seen on TV where they keep empty cans, jugs of urine, and every piece of string they have ever come in contact with.

I think it is a matter of degree and willingness to get rid of truly useless things. Pots for plants are useful. I applaud your saving them as future homes for more plants.

I keep a lot of bottle covers and caps as they make lovely pots for doll sized plants.
