The pond looks shallow, but if you step into the wrong bit you sink in mud above the ankles. Then, as you try to pull your foot out you overbalance and fall over- as indeed I did. Fortunately I know how to suspend the laws of physics- if only for a second; but that was long enough for me to slightly alter the trajectory of the fall and land on the bank and not in the water. Landing in the water would have done me no good at all.

So now I'm covered in mud (again) and my back will be complaining (but later). I'd told myself I wouldn't do any more work on the pond but the shape wasn't quite right and the root that divided it in two needed removing- and so on.

But now I will leave it alone- really I will- because I want the grass and whatever else is there to grow over the dyke and the critters to move in- which they won't if I keep disturbing them. So far I'm mostly seeing insects- but was that a pair of ducks I startled as I walked down the field? I about 80% sure it was- but they didn't rise above the tree line so I can't be sure.
