My favourite lunch: crusty French stick with humus and tsatsiki.

(Today's humus came from Sainsbury's and had olives in it)

What's yours?

Egg mayonnaise and crispy bacon in a buttered baguette. (Staying within the realms of things I'm likely to have for lunch on a weekday, anyway.)

Very nice too.

Bacon is the one thing I miss as a vegetarian. I buy the pretend stuff and it's not the same (the texture's wrong for a start) but it's better than nothing!

Sainsbury's does a range of fancy humuses. There's one with roasted red pepper and another with caramellised onion, but
the one with olives is the one for me.

Tsatsiki?

What's tsatsiki?

It's spelled any number of ways- I guess because it's originally a Greek word.

A basic tsatsiki is made with yoghurt, cucumber and mint.

I make my own hummus, too. One of my favorite things, although I've never had olives in it.

I try to vary my lunches - today (and probably for the week( left over veggie lasagna.

I sometimes mix my own tsatsiki, but today I was lazy and bought it ready-made.

favorite lunch? From the delit near the theatre where I work, a half-and-half mix of their tomato-orange soup and their chicken veggie. With a section of baguette and a couple of those tiny little round cheeses.

Baguettes are the business.

The orange-tomato soup sound pretty good too.

Today I am having cold egg noodles with toasted sesame seeds and spring onion in a dressing of rice vinegar, honey, sesame oil and soy sauce.

Do you think it's okay to eat your lunch at ten o'clock?

That sounds pretty good.

Is ten too early? I guess it depends when and if you had breakfast.

When I was a kid we used to have a mid-morning meal we called "elevensies", which was basically tea/coffee and biscuits.

What do you mean by "biscuits," Tony?

Our biscuits are floury, soft, not sweet, and are usually buttered and eaten with jam.

Ah, I think I mean "cookies".

Yes, I've eaten the kind of biscuits you mean- but only in Kentucky. Very good they were too!

yesterday (i'm a day behind on my flist) i had a very similar lunch. erik took me out to the mediterranean place down the road. i had their 'gyro lunch platter' which is roasted shaved gyro meat, tabouli, humus, tsatsiki, a little sqare of feta, one purple olive, and a piece of pita. waaaaaay to much for one lunch, so i have the leftovers for today!

Pizza from Little Caesar's.

Or from the Mellow Mushroom, with mushrooms and spinach.

With orange juice.

I know.

What I like to do is take a very, very basic pizza margherita- and cover it with green olives.
