I dreamed I went up to the roof of my house and found a corridor that was open to the sky and lined with cabinets and pictures. There was an open hatch connecting the corridor with a store room on the floor below.

I've had similar dreams before. They're text book. The house is the psyche and finding a previously undiscovered wing or floor or room means an enlargement of knowledge or consciousness or wisdom or experience....

And when you get to my age it means, "You ain't finished yet..."

The open hatch to the store-room is a novelty. I guess that's telling me that influence from the upper storey (and the sky) has already been seeping downwards but has been shut off, compartmentised. In the dream I was thinking I needed to seal the hatch.  And I suppose now I've reached the upper level I don't need it any more.

The cabinets were stuffed full of knick-knacks. They need to be gone through. Who knows, some of them might even have value...

Jungian

What I know about dream analysis I get from Jung.

Not that I've studied him. Just read a few books.

Jung was the shaman as scientist or the scientist as shaman. So much more illuminating and illuminated than Freud.

Freud worked within the enclosed Newtonian-Darwinian universe. Jung threw open some windows. Let the wind blow through.

And now I'm looking at that dream from two nights back. The one about the sculpture park. Isn't that about taking stock of past modes of consciousness, past ideas or- if you want to push the boat out- past lives? And might that not be seen as preparation for last night's dream about the corridor on the roof?
