 My mother woke me this morning, calling "Anthony" as she used to do. 

I remember several bits of dreams.

...I was explaining to a group of friends how my earlier dream about a whale that contained everything- including myself- was a dream about God.....

...Several Quaker friends had died and had been replaced at the Meeting House by newcomers. One who looked very like a deceased Friend- only younger and plummier, introduced himself as "Father Anthony". He said he was our clerk's spriritual director and was there to assess his performance...

Still at the Meeting House I found the locker where I kept my vestments had been emptied. "But", said the housekeeper, "You don't need them any more"...

...And then I was walking home, detouring to take in a graveyard/sculpture park. The sculpture on show was from all epochs, the earliest- badly worn- being Roman...

 Dreams look forward as well as back, because in dreams one is no longer fixed in linear time and can drift about.

The foreshadowings don't have to be momentous.

For instance I had that dream last night about Roman statuary- and this morning found myself- not having planned it - watching a video about the contemporary reconstruction (using laser printers) of the colossal statue of Constantine- which used to stand in the apse of the basilica of Maxentius in Rome.

Enough of the statue remains- head, hands, feet- to make the reconstruction plausibly accurate. It's a fucking ugly thing...
