Screens And Planes
Aug. 19th, 2022 08:38 am Neither of us has watched mainstream TV for months so we got a local charity to come and take the set away. It isn't that we don't look at screens- because we do- just that we use ones that take up less space. Where the large stationary screen sat on its large table (a 19th century dining table that has also gone to the charity shop) there is now a stand with pot plants on it.
Eastbourne hosts an air show. It began yesterday. Most of the flying happens over the sea- and quite right too for safety's sake- but we're not so far inland that we don't get to see some of the action. Yesterday I caught what I think was a Hawker Hurricane and a Messchersmitt 109 flying together in amity; also part of the Red Arrows display of hi-speed, synchronised dare devilry. It was a thrill to have one of those glittery bright red machines fly low over our garden- and I was big with the jumping about and the pointing. After the excitement had died down, Ailz turned to me and said, " I wonder what that cost?" And I said, "I was thinking that too ..."
