We've had an email from the Council saying we can no longer expect to have our recycling picked up regularly because there's a shortage of drivers thanks to Brexit and Covid.

Julia was reading an article about the wildflowers we need to be cultivating in our gardens- and she went though the list and was happy to see we have every one of them growing in the lawn that is now a meadow- all except ramsons-and I can live with that...

A quick brown fox is paying us regular visits. It's very sleek and slim and I reckon it's a young'un. Yesterday afternoon it sat itself down at the top of the garden and looked at us down its nose, as if sizing us up.

I spent much of yesterday fiddling about with a very old poem that I'd thought was OK but on closer inspection turned out not to be. I tried mending it but the fabric tore. A lot of these older poems come out of states of mind I can no longer access- but unless they contain obvious false notes or attitudes I can no longer countenance I accept that they were true once and may still strike other people as true- and let them pass.

Matt Hancock resigned as Health Secretary. It was about time. It takes Pelion piled on Ossa to get a senior politician to resign these days. I wonder whether the name Matt Hancock will still set up echoes ten years from now? The usual fate of politicians- even ministers- is to be very quickly forgotten- but Hancock's outstanding record of jiggery-pokery during a time of national crisis might just keep him from being utterly blotted out. Besides, he's still young- and he might well be back in some capacity or other. He's one of the gang and the gang persists...

Yesterday's UAP report was only a fragment of the whole. A fuller version was sent to the few people in government who are thought capable of coping with the information it contains. Perhaps one of them will leak it. They jolly well should.
