Danger Beware Sinkhole

This is the war memorial in the churchyard of St Mary, Shenfield.
Such things are usually made of stone or bronze- hard-wearing materials. I like this one because it's made of neither, but looks as though it was crafted by a local carpenter and is now slightly skew-whiff and showing its age and the earth is sinking round it and threatening to take it down.
"Memory fades, must the remembered,
Perishing be?"
And the answer, I'm afraid, is, "Yes"...
