One Of Marlowe's Little Friends
Nov. 17th, 2018 11:31 amI've been sorting out the cupboards in the lobby and....whoops....there goes one of Marlowe's little playmates.
He brings them into the house and lets them go. This one is a vole I think.
One has to be so careful. I tried to rescue one the other day and squashed it by mistake. It had taken refuge under something heavy- the way they do. This one runs into the cupboard where we keep large plastic containers full of bird food. If I try to move any of those I'll kill it for sure.
But I can't just let it be. I found one we'd let be under the fridge last week. It had been dead a while (there are ways of telling).
I open the cupboard door, then open the front door too- and will it to do the right thing. And amazingly it does. It emerges from the cupboard, sniffs the air, leaves.
Then darts back in again. No, no, no, no, no! I move and scare it and it scurries back over the threshold and I shut the door sharpish.
Phew....
