I don't care for curtains. We live in the country and we're not overlooked so why have curtains at any but the bedroom windows? I never draw curtains at downstairs windows. I like the night. I don't want to shut it out.

We did away with the bathroom curtains when we had the room made over- and Ailz has been talking about replacing them- because "privacy".  So I said,"How about putting pot plants on the sills?" And that's what we've done. Ferns to be precise. They stop people in microlights looking in on us when we're not wearing very much. Plus lovely natural greenness. Plus oxygen.

In winter, drawing the curtains is a cheap form of double glazing - but I'm always reluctant to shut out summer evenings. To avoid being woken by the sun in the mornings, maybe. I'm with you on bathroom curtains, though - if you're not overlooked, what's the point?

We don't do curtains although we do have plantation blinds at the front of the house and roller blinds at the back.

I wish we could go without window covers, but we're on the second (first in British terms) floor of a three-story apartment building, with another of same on each side of us and across the street. So we have to have window coverings. We opted for what in the US are called "privacy blinds" --- venetian blinds with thin louvers that don't close tightly, which let in a lot of light and allow some glimpses of sky while preserving privacy. You can also get "blackout blinds" for bedrooms, which close more tightly and have thicker louvers; we have one in the bedroom and one in a living room wondow thatt's right next to a street-light.

On hot summer nights, we leave the luvers of the blinds open (except in the bathroom) until we go to bed, to let in the maximum of cool air, and ignore the fact that the neighbors can see right in. It's not like we're doing anything they can't see; they get an eyeful of one of us at the internet computer and the other seated at a desk or reading on the couch!

But really, I'd rather just have nothing, and be able to see the moon and stars.

(edited to fix a typo and an omission.)
