Overheard In The Post Office

The man with the neatly barbered silver beard was complaining to the Post Office clerk about Christmas no longer being a Christian festival and she was playing along the way you do. "Some people don't want the religious stamps," she said. "Well that's all down to the BBC," he said, "Because it's run by gays and atheists."

At which she demurred....

You mean all those gay priests are hiding a dreadful secret.....

It feels like there's a Monty Python sketch in there somewhere, with pagans complaining about how the solstice festival has been taken over by Christians and is no longer fun at all.

Indeed. The midwinter festival is as old as humanity. Christians incorporated it into their system so as not to go against the grain but they don't own it.
