Unwelcome Guests

A bunch of house flies just appeared. Have they come in out of the cold or are they newly hatched? In the evening they are attracted by my mother's table lamp. She doesn't know what they are but objects to them anyway. "Anthony, can you tell me what this is?" and then- as she becomes more familiar with them- "Anthony, one of your friends just turned up."
