Julia introduced her terrier to the rats who live in the flower bed next to the bird feeder. He was too noisy and clumsy to catch any of them but I've never seen anything like the way they ran- three of them- flat out- in a straight line- as if legs didn't come into it- like slugs from a gun.

By the time he'd worked out they were no longer lingering in the vicinity of their old homestead they could have been two fields away.
