When I was young a rainbow was a rare occurrence. If they showed up you took notice and went Ooh and Aah and summoned your loved ones to admire them. These days they seem to be appearing all the time. There was one this morning- a faint one; I caught it as it was fading back into the sky.

Was I a singularly unobservant child? No, I don't think so...

I guess we have a surfeit of rainbows in Minnesota. I have seen tons of them all my life. Lots of times we have double rainbows and once in a great while, a triple.

In the back yard of my childhood home, under the clothesline, there was an enormous patch of multi-leafed clovers. 4-leaf clovers were common. Some had as many as six leaves. I used to press them in my mother's gigantic just-for-show Bible. I suppose she pitched them in the trash when she discovered them there.

I wonder if that patch is still there? I haven't been on that farm in many years. I wonder if the current owners know how many dead cats, dogs, goldfish, bunnies, and other small pets are buried just beyond the yard in the back? We had a regular little cemetery out there.
