Here's an article about the archaeology of Tintagel. It seems there was something you can only call a palace there in the 6th century- with substantial stone walls and slate floors- and whoever lived in it was importing luxury goods from the Mediterranean and Near East. I know the academics hate it (or pretend to hate it) when you mention A***r or C*****t in this context, but really....

Here's an article about the archaeology of Tintagel.

"Significant finds include a section of a fine Phocaean red slipware bowl from Turkey, imported amphorae thought to be from southern Turkey or Cyprus, and fine glassware from Spain. Cow, sheep and goat bones showing signs of butchering and cooking were unearthed, plus a cod bone – possible evidence of deep-sea fishing being carried out from Tintagel."

That's really cool!
