poliphiloMatthew rolled up yesterday saying he'd just heard about the election on his car radio- which was a good 24 hours after Theresa May first announced it. He and Julia have a generator at their place in the woods but I don't think they run a radio or TV from it. If they ever see a newspaper it'll be in other peoples homes.
I wish I could lose my addiction to news. It does me no good. News is overwhelmingly depressing; it deals with people fighting, lying, stealing, cheating, making fools of themselves; it's calculated to make one despise one's fellow man. What have I gained by knowing that some Tweedle-dum and Tweedle-dee I'm never going to meet have been squabbling over a broken rattle? Does it make me happier? Certainly not. Wiser? I doubt it.
