I did it again.

Stuck the hose in the horses's water butt, walked away and thought about other things for a hour or so. I haven't been keeping tally but I think that's probably the fifth or sixth time.

It's only the field that gets flooded but even so I hate it that I'm wasting water...

Yes, the waste of water is what would really make me upset besides the fact that here in Spain it's a very expensive commodity.

We're not exactly short of water here. In fact today we've had a lot of it fall out of the sky for free.

Well, Spain doesn't always have that kind of luck.

My smartphone has an alarm/timer/stopwatch thingie on it. I use it for things like that -- when I remember.

I could do with something like that.

I'm lucky enough that I only water my garden - and I water it with water from a well in my garden, so basically it's more or less a question of recycling. (But since my waste water goes into a drain in the fields around my garden it also means that everything I pour down the drain goes into the same aquifer - so that's a very concrete way of making you very conscious of what you pour down the drain, since it will literally end up in your drinking water 20 years from now...)

What goes around comes around.

One of the good things about owning a bit of land is that it nudges you into thinking ecologically.

It has definitely changed the way I clean my home - I use a LOT of vinegar instead of many of the more complex cleaning agents. (It also means I produce less than one regular shopping bag of trash each week since I can now compost most of my refuse. This actually came as a surprise for me - it's not something I've made a conscious effort to achieve!)
