The days between Boxing Day and the New Year have a curious feel to them- compounded of anti-climax and anticipation. It's an illusion of course, but it feels as though life is on hold- and there's no way you could possibly start anything new. They're the year's appendix.

The remains of the turkey go out onto the compost heap where I hope predators and carrion eaters will find them, the accumulated waste paper and cardboard go to start a bonfire...

For me working daily it doesn't seem this way at all; the only difference is there are fewer people on the road on Christmas Day and NY's Day. In between it's pretty normal. I don't get any sense of the year turning except on solstices.

I used to work through Christmas. I was an Anglican priest so it was one of my busiest times of year.

This is my first Christmas where it's not a holiday from work. Normally I just sink into doing nothing mode for the full two week, but this year I'm actually making a start on a couple of new projects.
