Now that is what you call a bigwig...

I wonder if he employed a man just to curl his wig?

I'm sure he did. And why stop at one? I expect the wig had its own room in Versailles and a string of attendants.

A perfume description that I have loved for years included notes of mahogany and scotch "with a curl of the best lemon peel. How best? This lemon had its own summer home and a personal assistant. That's how best it is."

I like it.

But what on earth does mahogany smell like?

I have no idea—I've never bought the perfume!

I can think of a more straightforward- and perhaps cheaper- way of smelling of scotch and lemon- but the mahogany defeats me.

I can't imagine why that aren't more people around called Hyacinth.

There was an early bishop of that name who, if I remember correctly, became a saint. :o)

Didn't they all? The threshold for sanctity was pretty low in the early centuries AD.

All you had to do was persuade a lion to eat you...

I think being named Hyacinthe would go so well with such a wig.
Oh man, what were they thinking with those wigs...I wonder if this is what they will be thinking looking at our pictures a couple of centuries from now.
Well, at least nobody had to worry about thinning at the front then.

I don't know, some eras have better fashions that others. The 1920s were stylish and the 1970s were grotesque. I don't know about the present.

I might be going out on a limb but I think things like this from our time will not go down well in history of fashion:

Louis XIV by Hyacinthe Rigaud

That is a pretty serious wig.
