Went into a chip shop in Paddock Wood, ordered pudding and chips for Ailz and the very pleasant young man behind the counter didn't have a clue what I was talking about- so I had to settle for pie. Is steak pudding just a northern thing, then? Surely not. My mother used to make it all the time- and she's spent her whole life in the South East.

Incidentally, it was while I was sitting there in the chippie, waiting for my order to be filled, that the news came through on the radio that Dylan had won the Nobel prize.

I've never seen steak pudding on offer in a chip shop - if it's a morthern thing, it may be a northwestern one!

Odd, aren't they, these regional variations. Steak and kidney pud is standard issue in chippies around Manchester.

I was trying to think of some really ridiculous Dylan lyrics to quote on Twitter, but I could only think of the great ones!

Northern and Midlands, I think.

Like 'rock salmon' in the south.
