So, not all the squirrels have gone. I was reading a book on the patio yesterday afternoon when one of them came scurrying up to take a drink out of a plant pot holder a couple of yards from where I was sitting.

They cut Lee's meadow over the weekend- and I was snizzling and sneezing for a couple of days.

The plums are ripe.  Ailz wanted some for breakfast so I went out with my collander- in the dew of the morning- and picked her a handful.

I'm glad a squirrel or two is still around.
And there is nothing quite like picking breakfast fresh off the trees.

The plums are on a strip of land between us and the big house and we're not sure who they belong to- so we share them.

I recall making a rather delightful port-style wine out of plums, way back when - nothing more involved than the usual fermentation (and I don't recall what ABV it wound up at), but that plummy richness served it very well. ^_^

Then there was the blackberry & apple creation, the same year, where we left it a bit too long, and the yeast seemed to die off. Not wanting to waste it all, we bottled it anyway, and lo, it underwent a secondary fermentation in the bottle, for a beautifully crisp final sparkling wine!

And yay squirrels! It's impossible not to admire their pluck, even if they do have the distinct benefit of being able to get out of the way vertically much more easily than buns. (Though I do recall a series of photos from a few years ago, of one rabbit who was curiously adept at navigating trees)

Ailz and I made a rather powerful elderberry wine once.

My mother used to make all sorts of things- wines and beers- some of them pretty good, others less so. The beer was my favourite.
