Every time there's regime change my heart gives a little flutter and I find myself wondering whether the new lot will do any better than the last lot. Theresa May seems to have some sort of substance to her- daughter of the vicarage and all that- but it could just be a stick up the back of her coat. Well, we'll see.

Speaking of vicarages and thinking of all the time you spend in old churches....I ran across this page with links to scans of old documents from St. James (Kingsessing). It includes an 1859 invitation for a Strawberry Festival at the old Bartram Botanical Garden (it's still there, and we're members of the Friends) and a small item about An Evening with the Phonograph from the 1980s.

Thanks. Those are interesting.

I wonder what they listened to on their phonograph...

Given her zeal against immigration, and promise to do away with the Human Rights Act, I'll simply wait for people to consider her more Thatcher than Thatcher. Which is, after all, what some people wanted.

I look forward to waving goodbye to the UK, but with every nation's immigration system locked down, personal mobility is at a historical, and utterly lamentable low. And that I am especially ill tempered about, thanks to those who brought this about, whether politician or voter.

I like to give incoming leaders a breathing space. I did it with Cameron- and Brown before him. I didn't like either of them but I was prepared to wait and see and judge them on their works...
