Do I have to watch them? I'm really very happy with the BBC.

Yesterday I rescued a vole - on my sitting room floor. Well, when I say "rescued"... I prolonged it's life by 24 hours, because it had some pretty distinctive markings, and I'm quite sure it was the same vole that was served up for me this morning by the cat, this time dead.

The official death toll is now 15 voles and an unknown number of flies. I don't mind the flies being picked off one by one, but the voles are kind of cute - which shouldn't really be a factor in determining whether a life is worth preserving. (Actually, the flies aren't hurting anybody, whereas the voles are probably living off the crops of the local farmer, causing him a financial loss. Oh, and now I'm beginning to value lives in terms of financial gain or loss... Great... I'm not gaining any karma points, am I?)

Marlowe doesn't always kill his prey. He brings small mammals into the house and releases them- and sometimes I'm able to rescue them.

He hasn't shown any interest in flies- but we did once have a cat who killed slugs.

I'm trying to only inflict my personal principles on Punto in the sense that I really don't like bloody marks on the kitchen floor. I think that's fairly reasonable.

It's my experience that cats are incorrigible. You can do everything in your power to teach them good manners but they never learn.
