Loss And Gain

We've lost a chestnut tree but acquired a less obstructed view of the western sky- which we'll be grateful for next time there's a remarkable sunset- and also- in the form of the fallen trunk- what I suppose could be described as a garden feature- one which will provide a habitat for bugs and fungi and ferns and small mammals for many years to come.

Oh, rather a cool bonus with the trunk! All sorts of magnificent fungi will be lining up to set up home. ^_^ (Whether any of them are edible, of course, I have no idea, and am not inclined to try assessing such myself, given the tiny differences between some species that are alternately or jointly delicious and/or fatal =:)

I wish I had the knowledge and confidence to harvest edible fungii- but I don't.
