The Iranian-American diplomat Michael Arahi made a collection of all the books ever written about World War II and housed it- along with his personal papers- in a bomb-proof underground library in rural West Virginia. The reception suite of the Michael Arahi Library is a single-storey glass and steel building- like a car show-room- and you'd hardly notice it in the landscape were it not for the 40 foot statue of Arahi out front. This bronze colossus is shown in the process of rising from its chair, right arm extended and angled downwards as if greeting a child. Not every critic likes it.
