We keep the bird food in a couple of bins- with lids- in the cupboard by the front door. The cat was showing a interest in the cupboard this morning and Ailz said she could hear noises, so I hauled everything out- and at the bottom of one of the bins- on a bed of broken-up fat balls- was a mouse.

I took the bin out into the garden and released her into a flowerbed when the cat wasn't looking.

One does have to wonder at the Houdini-like abilities of small rodents!
I'm glad you were able to release it safely.

I suspect she'd been in the bin for a while.

Just one? Mice love birdseed almost as much as the birds do.

Just one. I don't know where the rest of the family are.

Odd just to find the one though.

I expect there are others around...

Those mousies are amazing. We once had one in our birdseed bin -- a galvanized trash can -- when we opened the lid, he levitated out and promptly died. Of relief and/or fright, I imagine.

I've always had a soft spot for mice.
