Channel 5 offered to explain the Loch Ness monster to me. Oh good, I thought; I've been wondering about that one most of my life; it would be nice to know for certain.

So (according to Channel 5) the Loch Ness monster is...

1. a wave pattern

2. a folk memory of the elephants from Bertram Mills' Circus

3. a seal that's wandered in from the North Sea. Maybe two seals

4. all in our heads.

It's the last one I find most insulting . It was voiced by a chap with twinkling specs who pointed to the big blip of sightings in 1933 and told us it was all due to people having come away from watching King Kong with over-heated imaginations. Ok. So why were they seeing plesiosaurs and not 30 foot apes?  Does King Kong even feature a plesiosaur? No that really won't wash. He then pointed to a later blip and said that one was due to some monster movie I'd never even heard of. No, that one washes even less.

I'm tired of being patronised by chaps in twinkling specs.

The fact remains that for all the hoaxes and quasi-hoaxes, there remain sightings that haven't been accounted for. The sonar sweep in the 70s or 80s found three anomalous underwater swimmers. A recent film shows something dashing through the water that isn't a wave pattern. There's something out there that can't just be twinkled away

Europe already experienced such things that - often single - wales found their way into the North and Baltic Seas. Who knows if maybe one saw a wale of one of those bigger-growing kinds?
Just because this fairy tale already exists for that long - it isn't just these days that new kinds of animals come to hemispheres they usually don't live in because of the climate change. Those things also took place before, the only difference between then and now is that the planet is already that much discovered that humans concretely take notice of what happens and where.
How would such a phenomenon have looked globally as computers weren't, satellites didn't circle the earth, cameras were just new and trips to North America via ship took several months to arrive?
Or, something else that comes into mind: If it always nearly was the same place where people have told to see Nessy, maybe it was a military vehicle? A new kind of submarine? Not everybody back then knew what a submarine would look like and they didn't know humans can build that to dive and fight under water.
And a submarine would bear a good resemblance to a Plesiosaur.

The first famous photo of the monster was in fact faked up using a model of the animal's head and neck stuck onto a toy submarine.

I think there's something unusual in the loch.

would like to believe there's mysteries,
think an animal that's been around this long
would learn stealth ignored to survive.

the know-it-alls just don't have the say all really.

I don't think it's a plesiosaur, but I believe there's something in there.

The year he turned 50 I gave Professor C-P a 'snow globe' of Nessie. C-P is a naturalized U.S. citizen, originally a Scot and he is a pooh-pooher.

I agree with you. Not everything can be explained by science.

I'm tired of the argument that it's all in our minds. I think it's dishonest.

There's evidence for the Loch Ness monster- as there is for the sasquatch, UFOs etc etc...
