Judy suggests I join Parlio- which is a site where issues are discussed. I say, "Erm".

Because actually I don't want to discuss issues any more.

Favourite story of mine. Thomas Aquinas on his deathbed points to the bookshelves groaning with the accumulated volumes of the Summa Theologica and says, "If I knew then what I know now I wouldn't have bothered."

I think we all have to discuss "issues" from time to time, but... We certainly have the right to decide which issues to discuss and with whom - and when. (And an online forum for "issue discussions" sounds like a bit of a nightmare.)

Sometimes we have no choice in the matter, but I don't intend to go out looking for arguments.

Right now I feel like I have no choice. As my country stands, and given how much I actually love my country and want it to be the best it can be, I guess I have to join a party. And look for if not arguments then discussions. And look to get acquainted with people with different opinions from my own, because quite frankly I don't understand what is happening.

I look at the situation in England and don't see any party of the left that isn't either feeble or compromised. If I were Scottish I might join the SNP.

In Denmark we are fortunate to have a much more pluralistic political landscape; I'd be challenged in the UK as well... I've joined a party that describes itself as "socialist, feminist and green" (Enhedslisten - The Red/Green party).

I hope it will be good. It will perhaps not be a government party in my lifetime, but it has proven its worth as parliamentary support for the now defunct government so it's not just a bunch of ideals but also a great deal of realpolitik - which is what Danish politics is all about because we so rarely have had single-party governments.
