Labour fields Martin Freeman. The Tories hit back with "100 business leaders". I said they wouldn't be able to respond in kind. Do 100 business leaders punch as hard as an actor who has become the public face of decency in the UK? In Grant Shapps' world they probably do.

I would like to turn my back on it all but I don't think I can. It has a horrible fascination.

In what world is being the bosses' party a recommendation for the Tories?

It baffles me too, but it does seem to impress people.

The right wing media are being nakedly and aggressively partisan. It makes me so cross.

The mystery about Grant Shapps is why the Tories still employ a crook and how someone so blatantly corrupt still has that job!

It's very strange.

But then I remember how Cameron employed and then stuck with Andy Coulson.

I would totally vote for Martin Freeman. Not for American president, though - I wouldn't wish that job on anyone.

These days business leaders are no longer given credit for caring for their staff and for UK plc. They are much more likely to be suspected of nest-feathering.

Mark Steel has an article in today's Indy in which he expresses his amazement that a bunch of wealthy businessmen should declare their support for the party of wealthy businessmen.
