Judy suggests that the Presidential race in 2008 will be between Hillary & Jeb.

That's so dynastic it's practically medieval.

It's like the Wars of the Roses. Like the Capulets v the Montacutes.

It seems as though every political system slides backwards if let- towards such primitive institutions as monarchy and aristocracy and clan.

As George W Bush jokingly said (oh, but he meant it)- "A dictatorship would be a heck of a lot easier."

I live in the state where Hillary is senator. She's done a LOT of good things, including stuff for veterans. Yet the people who most revile here are men my Dad's age (my Dad is in his late 70's). No, come to think of it, my brother (soon to be 51) doesn't like her either. There seems to be some question of whether she is 'feminine enough' and some question as to whether you know who is still operating her strings.

The idea of JEB Bush scares me more than who is in the Whitehouse NOW.

I think that there is no perfect form of government...

I think that W got re-elected because John Kerry couldn't make up his mind what he(himself) stood for. That and the fact that he couldn't quite fake the warmth he needed. It is true that in order to run for the grandest office of the land, you must have money. BUT, you must be able to act like you haven't any. He never got it.

And the other reason? It is true that 'we' are notoriously hesitant of changing leadership during wartime.

Barach Obama...electrified EVERYONE with his speech at the Democratic convention. Yet, because he is part African American, I don't see him being president in MY lifetime. I have to say that when it comes to politics, I am very disappointed in much of the attitude in this country. Equality is espoused, not practiced, and I'm afraid that I will neer live to see a woman VICE president, never mind president. It's always rich old men.

Very disheartening.

I get the impression with Hillary that she'd do anything for power. That bothers me. I don't like the way she's changed her image from sixties hippie chick to boiler-plated political machine.

She's much less charming than roguish Bill.

But (almost) anyone would be preferable to a continuation of the Bush dynasty.

Judy, who studies political form, says Jeb is a lot smarter than Dubya.

Yes, whether you liked him or not Bill Clinton was a charmer and a rogue (and looks fabulous since his surgery!)

HOw strange that you saw Hil as 60's hippy chick, I never saw her that way.

I don't care how smart Jeb is, he's a BUSH. We've had enough Bush men (and women) in the White House. He's even more of a religious fanatic, he tried to make sure that Terri Schiavo wouldn't get her final peace.

I read something or saw something that portrayed the very young Hillary as a straggle-haired, spectacle wearing political activist. I find that image attractive- much more attractive than the thing she's become.

Oh yes, we've had quite enough of the Bushes.

It's like the Wars of the Roses.

Oh, goody! So the loser will die of "pure displeasure and melancholy," aided perhaps by a crushing blow to the back of the head?

And that's exactly the problem with dynastic politics. You end up with a "king" as ill-suited to the game as poor old Henry VI was.

I just think the Bushes and the Clintons have had their 15 minutes (and then some)

How about letting some other family have a go?

Well, there's a new name.

I have to confess I'd never heard of Romney before. It's good to know there are other possibles.....

mitt romney is my governor. i hate him. he's all good looks and charm and nothing else. he's a republican governor in a democratic state and it's very obvious to everyone here that he's just using the position to put him on the national stage. he spends most of his time travelling to other parts of the country, giving speeches to other republicans about how stupid massachusetts (my state) is. when he's not doing that, he's trying to reinstate the death penalty and repeal the judiciary's decision to allow gay marriage. poor mitt; the gay marriage thing is really going to hurt his bid for president.

If my political party offers up Hillary as its candidate in 2008, it is doomed. It will never work, and they would basically be handing the White House to the Republican party for yet another four years.

I would hope that the DNC would have a more...electable...candidate on their political radar by then; one who would do a far better job than that poor sap John Kerry.

But Hillary? I think I'd have to return my DNC card if that happens.

Poor John Kerry.....

Poor DNC

Poor America.

It seemed incredible to an outsider that Kerry was the best the party could come up with.

Not that our British party leaders are any more inspiring. In this past election Tony Blair was opposed by Michael Howard- a Thatcher-era veteran with a ghastly track record and a marked resemblance to Count Dracula....

Trust me, it seemed incredible to an insider that Kerry was the best the party could come up with! Kennedy wanna-be. Pfft!

I'm just waiting for some lineage of Kennedy to match up against Jeb's son, George P. Bush. The aristocracy of democracy...

Well...the U.S. keeps electing the people...those of us who still exercise our right to vote.

And growing increasingly unpopular with his constituency, as well.

I guess...there will always be things I don't agree with about the way this country is run, but it's my country. I will ALWAYS work to make it better, by exercising my right to vote. I think I should found my own party...except I couldn't afford to run for anything.

I never liked Arnie. I hated most of the movies he made. I wouldn't be sorry if his political career were to run out of steam.

If it is Hillary v. Jeb, that would suggest that both political parties are seriously out of fresh ideas ... which, I'll admit, they are. Especially, sad to say from my personal perspective, the Democrats, who want to win but seem to have no strategy beyond, "We'll win when people recognise our inherent intelligence and our superiority to those slaves-to-the-fundamentalists Republicans", which won't work.
