Six down, only fourteen to go.

I was binge-watching The Killing yesterday. Yes, I know, only eight years behind the curve.

Nordic miserabilism, eh? I jib at calling it realism, because real life also has its sunny days, its children's birthday parties and its moments of transcendence.

Maybe if they'd filmed it in August instead of November...

We watched the American version. Same actor for the detective, but he uses his American accent.

Where did they set it? Somewhere grim I hope.

I think you're thinking of Broadchurch not the Killing. They did do an American remake of the Killing, but the detective is female and Danish and there was a different actress in the US version.

I've never quite worked out why the US is so keen to remake British contemporary dramas. I suppose a liking for subtitles is perhaps a bit niche, so if it's in a language other than English, it makes sense, but you do miss out on our scenery.

You're right. We watched them both and I got the names mixed up.

I'll watch Sofie Gråbøl in just about anything, really, and I like how Forbrydelsen (The Killing) took her to a darker space than she is normally cast for.

I've seen the US version as well, and I must say they did a really good job with it. Mireille Enos carries the US series, as she should. In some ways it seems even bleaker than the original, and to me it actually managed to stand alone as a viewing experience that was largely detached from the original.

The Killing made S G an international star. She was on stage in Edinburgh last year and is currently starring in an English language TV series alongside Michael Gambon.

My Partner binge-watched that, too. She liked it, but she said if was definitely "Nordic-noir".
