My mother is watching the Cenotaph ceremony. The band is playing a medley of war tunes. Some Dimblebody or other is giving us the low down.

Ah- that's more like it- the band is playing Mademoiselle d'Armentieres...

For Churchill, as well as all the other politicians of that time: If you wanted to portray them as angels, they all had a white wing and a black wing (some also only half of a white wing). Because they all had their light and their dark corners. (One could say: Just as it is today.)

Churchill was a glory-seeker and adventurer who happened to be the right man for the job in 1940. Apart from that "finest hour" his career was less than glorious.
