Well, no-one knows quite what happened next but the dossier is now lost. One could speculate, but then the libel laws would kick in.  Simon Danziuck MP- who has written a book about Cyril Smith (one of the perps- and one we can talk about because he's dead) is pushing for full disclosure and there's growing pressure for a public enquiry, though Nick Clegg- who is a protege of Brittan's- says he can't see why...

It's the political establishment that's being protected. The bad eggs are not particularly important but they have friends who are. An awful lot of people will have known the facts and chosen to look the other way. This will rock Westminster the way Savile has rocked the BBC.
