No-one I'm aware of has commented yet on the oddity of an Islamist group having the same name as the Egyptian Mother Goddess so I'm going to.

I thought the same yesterday. Apparently it's an acronym and the US calls them ISAL, which for some reason reminds me of the name of a old brand of toilet paper (or was it toilet cleaner?), the exact name of which eludes me at present.

The funny thing is, we've heard about Al-Qaeda and Taliban and Boko Haram etc., but these guys seem, to us at least, to have sprung up from nowhere. Did nobody know they were there?
