You See?

I woke and there was a sparrow chirping loudly under the window.

"You see, you see, you see."

Well, that's what it sounded like.

What do I see? That it's nest-building time for birds? That Spring is here? Perhaps. But I couldn't not notice that there'd been a snow-fall overnight and, though most of it had melted, there was still a half inch of slushy stuff on the roofs of the cars.

I had a fearful headache. I got up, staggered around a bit, then went back to bed. It's fading now. If there's an upside to having a headache it's that you get such a dreamy, floaty sense of well-being afterwards. I may not be making much sense right now, but I 'm feeling really wonderful.

It was 72 here yesterday, and today I plan to be out in the back yard, getting the flowerbeds ready for spring.

I'm glad your headache is better!

(Aside: When the sun is shining brightly, I'm going to set up a Kindertoy story in the iris bed and take some pictures.)

Alas, no. There's a gas fire in there. And it's more for ornament than use. It puts out very little heat.

I have a gas fireplace, too. I have turned it on only once or twice. It actually looks pretty real, but I can't bring myself to spend the money for something that only looks good.

We bought this really fine mahogany fireplace (with a windfall legacy) and we had to put something in it. But we very rarely have it lit.

My fireplace is probably the antithesis of yours--it looks like a very Texas fireplace, made of stone brick with a lintel of some unvarnished wood.

Perhaps the sparrow was commenting on your headache? Perhaps he was saying 'You see what happens if you do whatever you did last night.'

This falls down if you went to bed early with a hot cup of cocoa and a good book, of course.

Here, all the crocuses have been pulped down into a mushy smear by recent heavy rain. Not that this is incompatible with it being spring, though - rather, a typical sign of it, I'd say.

Hey. I live in the same country as Jackie, but our weather is completely different. Reverse the digits of 72 and you get what our temp is now. It was a balmy 15 overnight.

However, I"m not ready for 72 degree weather either. Our 'high' this time of year is supposed to be in the 40's.

I don't know what the temperature is here, but it can't be much above freezing. Ailz and I are going to wrap up warm this afternoon and huddle in the front of the TV and watch an old Jimmy Stewart movie.

Oh, you are so right. Many of the students here at the Law School are disillusioned when they find out that fact...and of course, this doesn't add to the reputation of lawyers in any kind of good way.

Anatomy of a Murder must be just about the first mainstream Hollywood movie to take such a jaundiced view. I love how Jimmy Stewart subverts his own image by playing a character who uses folksiness to bamboozle judge and jury. It's a very grown-up film.

I understand what you mean, because I get headaches pretty often. They're mostly sinus headaches, but they hurt like hell, and when they're gone, I always feel so much happier :)

I don't know whether its just the contrast between the pain and the lack of pain, or whether the body releases lots of endorphins in self defence, but the aftermath of a headache is a nice place to be.
