The solicitor came yesterday to get us to sign the deeds of attorney. My mother knew someone was coming but had to keep asking "Who?" and "Why?"

It looks as if my brother-in-law has found a buyer for the foal. Which is excellent news. And timely. My mother's good friend has just raised the fee she charges for letting it eat her grass from £11.50 to to £20 per day.

Ailz tells me my mother has taken to referring to me in my absence as "the master of the house" and "the boy".

It's hard to have to give up control of one's life.

If she cut the grass, dried it to hay, baled it, and transported it to your house, the amount a foal could eat would be a fraction of that.

That's rather what I thought.

But I suppose she's got a living to earn....
