These waves of grief and resentment that keep rolling over me aren't mine. They come from a sulky little boy who hasn't appeared in the mirror for over 40 years.

Acknowledge him, smile at him and remind him he grew up into a person who is loved.

I used to rant and rail at my parents, mostly for being narrow minded and suspicious. After they died I told myself that it couldn't really have been that bad. Then I went to a barbecue where an elderly woman was having trouble reading the label on a bottle of relish. I asked her what she was trying to find on there and she said she need to know if there was any of "that garlic stuff in there because if there is I can't eat it as it repeats on me and gives me indigestion". And that dismal despair came flooding back.
