Here's a fascinating (and seriously scientific) quiz from the BBC.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/brainsex
It measures the sexual identity of the brain.

I come out, not entirely to my surprise, as 100% female- which is to say a good deal girlier than the average girl.

So incidentally does [livejournal.com profile] craftyailz

It takes about three quarters of an hour to complete.

So you're a lesbian?

Seems like it.

I was, as it happens, married to a lesbian first time round......

Well; everybody knows that the lesbo-bug is contageous! You must have gotten it off her, then!

You must seclude yourself from society, you know. Its your duty!

I already do.

LJ is the only place where I come out and feel the sun.

I appear to be 100% female, which should make my husband happy, but what I find most interesting is that I am left-brain dominant and quite possibly an engineer, because of my really great spatial ability. Be afraid, be very afraid.

From: [identity profile] poliphilo.livejournal.com
I am right brain dominant, but my spatial skills aren't bad. Better, anyway, than I anticipated.

I figure the spatial part really helps when I create a costume pattern by looking at a painted portrait, but an engineer? MOI??? The world and all who know me scoff.

I am descended from engineers. My grandfather and father both knew better than to expect me to follow in their footsteps.

I'm the freak artsy one in a family of economists, scientific types and doctors. BUT the whole family calls on me when one of their kids needs help with anything literary, artsy or historical.

My fathers family were a pragmatic lot. I get my artsiness from my mother's side- where they are all priests, Quakers, artists and crafts-persons.

I must be a third sex, or too dumb to take the test.

I went to the second page of angles, saw the straight line at the top, and didn't see anything to select.

Then I dumbly clicked on "learn more" and bounced right out of the test.

At least you made it to one of the sexes. I think I may be a chimp or something.

I think I will try again. Hope it'll let me back in.

Carry on. It's fun.

And it's given me a lot to think about.

100% female, although I scored well on the logic/spatial relations type ones.

Having done a fair bit of gender studies, I always find the science (and mostly pseudo-science) that surrounds 'men vs women' stuff a bit iffy ... but I haven't exactly looked into it in great detail. It said the result is based only on the mind tests, so I'm assuming the rest is for their research - which is good, because the rest (all the little questions) struck me as addressing learned behaviours, so I assume that's part of what they're researching.

I found the faces one the most interesting. I am only attracted to guys, but apparantly I find feminine faces the most attractive.

* but apparantly I find feminine faces the most attractive.

e.g. my icon, which is a male's face, but apparantly people can't tell that.

I'd assumed it was a woman. Probably because of the hair. Now I study it more closely I see it's androgynous.

I <3 androgyny.

And I'm attracted to "masculine" women. That took me back a bit.

My browser doesn't make the cut. The quiz wants some flavor of Flash that I don't have. So the sexual identity of my brain will continue to be a mystery to me.

I am exactly halfway between male and female.

A shock.

But something went badly awry on the verbal part of the test! I was given only one point for my synonyms for "grey" and "happy"--even though I typed all sorts of words--well, I thought I did--that might work--as "joyful" and "dove."

They said I was a "strong, silent type."

Oh, no I am not! I protest!

Fascinating. And you got 100% female! Even more fascinating.

Date: 2005-02-19 08:02 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] poliphilo.livejournal.com
The snarl-up over the words has almost certainly skewed the final result. I should imagine that your real score is closer to the female end of the scale.

I feel very comfortable with my 100% female. it confirms what I have always suspected.

From: [identity profile] saskia139.livejournal.com
I had a similar problem--it did not register my words for "grey", only for "happy". I may have scored closer to the middle, in truth.

Date: 2005-02-19 09:27 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] saskia139.livejournal.com
I scored 25% male--no surprise, and I'll bet my husband would not score that high. *g*

Make sure it registers all your words for grey. A couple of people have been tripped up by the technology at that point.

Finally completed it. It appears I am somewhere between man and woman. This was interesting:

Your empathy score is: 5 out of 20
Average score for men: 4 - 12
Average score for women: 8 - 15

Your systemising score is: 16 out of 20
Average score for men: 8 - 16
Average score for women: 3 - 12

Cool.

I liked the bit with the faces best. There's another similar test on the site which determines whether you're attracted to introverts or extroverts.

yes, the same thing happened to me! i scored high on spatial awareness and systemizing, and low on empathy, and it still said i was 100% female. not quite what i was expecting...

Interesting quiz. I scored 100% female, although most of my scores were in the 'mixed' category. I've taken other tests, which could not figure out what I was.

I think this test had a glitch, but that's OK- it was still interesting.

I'm also beginning to wonder if there's a glitch. Too many people who seemed to achieve "balanced" scores ended up with an "extreme" result. Oh well...
